CRIF and ADMO (Italian Bone Marrow Donor Association) have been collaborating for several years, raising awareness about blood disorders and raising funds for through initiatives at CRIF’s offices, such as charity stalls during the festive season. We are extremely proud of the valuable work carried out in collaboration with ADMO, which continues to make a difference in the lives of people affected by blood diseases.

A long and healthy life is a fundamental right of every human being. The onset of a blood disorder can crush the prospects and hopes of the affected individual and those close to them. Unfortunately, in Italy, about 2,000 people every year, half of whom are children, require a bone marrow transplant. The most common causes are blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, for which a bone marrow transplant offers a real chance of a cure and, in some cases, is the only possible cure. The transplant can only be performed if a compatible person is found willing to donate hematopoietic stem cells.

That’s why ADMO, founded in 1990, aims to raise awareness in Italy about the possibility of treating blood cancers through bone marrow donation and transplants. ADMO guides the potential donor through the tissue typing process and subsequently registration in the Italian Bone Marrow Donor Registry.

In April, CRIF and ADMO organized a tissue typing and awareness-raising event at CRIF21 on the topic of bone marrow donation.
